Brad Winderbaum, Executive Producer and Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, has shared insights about the series “Echo,” premiering this Tuesday on Disney+ and Hulu. “Echo” is a five-episode story centered around Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), following her quest for power and revenge as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and his criminal empire.
This series marks the debut of the new Marvel Spotlight banner, aimed at more realistic, character-driven stories. “Echo” is the first Marvel Studios series to be released with all episodes available at once, and it is also the first to be streamed simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu. Moreover, it’s Marvel’s first series rated as TV-MA.
Winderbaum emphasized the importance of differentiating “Echo” from previous releases, noting the renegade nature of the series within the MCU and its aggressive storyline. He also explained that the Marvel Spotlight banner allows for complete stories to be told, without the need for direct connection to the main Avengers plotlines, providing an independent experience for viewers.
Winderbaum’s expectation is that viewers will be captivated by the performance of Alaqua Cox, who has already shown remarkable talent in “Hawkeye.” He stresses that “Echo” offers a complete experience, capable of attracting both traditional Marvel fans and new viewers.
