The beloved medical drama “The Good Doctor,” starring and executive produced by Freddie Highmore, is set to conclude with its upcoming seventh season on ABC. This marks the end of a significant chapter for the series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature, and it joins “Station 19” as another long-standing ABC drama concluding this season.
“The Good Doctor” has been a standout in ABC’s Monday night lineup, ranking as the number one entertainment series in the 10 PM slot last season among Adults 18-49. Following six successful seasons in this time slot, the show, under the guidance of showrunners Liz Friedman and David Shore (who also created it based on a Korean format), is making a move to Tuesday nights at 10 PM.
Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, praised the creative direction of Shore and Friedman and Highmore’s performance, highlighting how the series has deeply resonated with audiences. The show’s focus on Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young autistic doctor, has been pivotal in its appeal, with Highmore’s casting being integral to its success.
In addition to Richard Schiff, who portrays Dr. Shaun’s mentor, Dr. Glassman, Highmore is the only cast member who has been a series regular throughout its entire seven-season run. Production for the final season is currently underway in Vancouver, with Erin Gunn of Shore Z Prods. serving as an executive producer alongside Shore, Friedman, and Highmore.
The main cast for Season 7 includes familiar faces like Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Bria Samoné Henderson, and Noah Galvin. Chuku Modu, who returned last season as Dr. Jared Kalu, has also been elevated to a series regular.
The producers expressed their gratitude to the incredible cast, crew, and their partners at Sony and ABC Signature, as they prepare to deliver a deserving conclusion to the fans, cast, and crew. This conclusion marks the end of “The Good Doctor” franchise, as ABC recently decided not to proceed with the proposed spinoff, “The Good Lawyer.”
