The long-awaited moment for classic cinema and science fiction fans has arrived: “The Abyss,” James Cameron’s acclaimed film, is set to have a remastered 4K version available for a one-night screening in U.S. cinemas. Scheduled for December 6, this event promises to be a unique cinematic experience.

Originally released in 1989, “The Abyss” tells the gripping tale of a nuclear submarine that mysteriously sinks, leading a crew from a private oil rig, headed by foreman Bud Brigman (Ed Harris), to join a team of Navy SEALs on a search and rescue mission. What ensues is a spectacular odyssey 25,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, where they encounter a mysterious force with the potential to change the world — or destroy it. The cast also includes Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michael Biehn.

James Cameron, the film’s director, expressed his excitement about this new version: “If you haven’t seen the film before, this is the way to experience it, and if you have, it will be like the first time all over again. So, get out to the theaters and enjoy.”

While initially limited to the United States, there are expectations for screening plans in the United Kingdom and a potential home entertainment release. Stay tuned for more information.
