Mocidade Alegre has been crowned the champion of the São Paulo Carnival 2024, reaffirming its dominance with a spirited tribute to the Brazil imagined by Mário de Andrade. With an impeccable performance, the school achieved the maximum score of 270 points, surpassing 13 other associations in the fiercely competitive Special Group. Dragões da Real and Acadêmicos do Tatuapé rounded out the podium, highlighting the high level of competition.
Founded in 1967, Mocidade Alegre, headquartered in the Limão neighborhood, north zone of São Paulo, and led by Solange Bichara, reiterated its excellence at the Sambódromo do Anhembi, being the third to parade on the second night. This triumph marks the 12th victory of the school, already known as the “Morada do Samba” (Abode of Samba), a space for welcoming and celebrating Brazilian culture.
This year, the school’s plot, conceived by Jorge Silveira and Leonardo Antan, proposed a reflection on the Brazilian cultural identity, inspired by Mário de Andrade’s journey through the interior of Brazil. The parade was a true journey through Brazilian art, territory, and people, paying tribute to the centenary of the “Turista Aprendiz” expedition.
The competition was characterized by rigorous evaluation in nine criteria, including evolution, front commission, costume, plot, among others. The quality of the sound system and the clarity of the samba-enredo’s lyrics were recently valued aspects, demonstrating the evolution of judging criteria.
With the championship’s definition without public presence, only with representatives of the schools and the press, the live broadcast by TV Globo allowed carnival aficionados to follow the excitement of the results announcement.
Tom Maior and Independente Tricolor, the last two placed with 268.7 points, were relegated to Access Group 1, according to the rules of the Independent League of Samba Schools of São Paulo, setting the scene for next year.
